FAI “ROSDORNII” and “Kazan-Telematika” company (an associate of “Telematika” concern) developed intelligent road infrastructure at Special Economic Zone “Alabuga” for safe and efficient operation of highly automated vehicles (HAVs) in real traffic on public roads. Technological, organizational and business solutions that will be tested in the pilot zone will create a foundation for the development of ITS infrastructure and standards for unmanned transport.
HAVs from various manufacturers will be tested in Alabuga pilot zone. The total length of the route will be 11.2 km. Tests will include the interaction of unmanned vehicles with road transport infrastructure, high-precision positioning systems and dynamic digital traffic maps, which will feed HAVs data in real time on traffic and weather conditions, road accidents along the entire route. In turn, smart road infrastructure will receive data on the movement of autonomous vehicles, thereby ensuring effective traffic management.
“The results obtained during the experiments in the Alabuga pilot zone will make it possible to create a scientific, methodological, regulatory and technical basis for the phased introduction of HAVs on public roads without a test engineer in a vehicle,” – said Deputy General Director of FAI “ROSDORNII” Anton Zhuravlev.
“Intelligent transport solutions being implemented in the Republic of Tatarstan in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone will make the future of autonomous cars closer. Testing HAVs in real traffic conditions will help not only improve the functional and technical characteristics of autonomous vehicles, but also determine, based on the results of the experiments, optimal ITS technologies, including those ensuring the safe use of HAVs on public roads,” commented Marcel Nigmetzyanov, Deputy General Director of the “Telematica” concern.
