Entry The Astrakhan Region's public transport development program will allow this year to start updating rolling stock in the region's passenger transportation system, the measures are planned to be implemented until 2026. This was stated by the head of the region Igor Babushkin at a meeting of the regional government on Thursday. Earlier it was reported that the authorities Astrakhan region plans to optimize the route network of the Astrakhan agglomeration with the participation of representatives of the FAA "ROSDORNIA". According to the results of the analysis of the transport situation in the region, experts noted a one-and-a-half excess of duplicated routes on the line, the rolling stock of which is 95% "small" class, the so-called minibuses, as well as the lack of a clear schedule and non-cash form of fare payment. It was reported that the transport reform will be phased – a number of routes will be launched from October 1, the rest – from December 1, 2022.

"The problem of passenger transportation in our region is one of the most acute. Since last year, the formation of a public transport reform system has been underway. The measures are planned to be implemented until 2026. The result there should be an improvement in the quality and safety of transportation. Within a week, it is necessary to send an application to the Ministry of Transport of Russia for entry into the public transport development program, which will allow this year to start updating the rolling stock," he said Babushkin is at the meeting.

As the vice-governor of the region noted at the government meeting Oleg Knyazev, implementation of planned measures for the development of public passenger transport Astrakhan region will continue and will be completed on time. In addition to the renewal of rolling stock, modernization involves the construction or reconstruction of transport infrastructure facilities, stopping points, as well as the organization of dedicated lanes for route vehicles.

As TASS reported earlier, the chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko called the issue of public transport in The Astrakhan region "the problem of problems" and proposed to the regional government to develop more urban transport companies.
