The 37th session of the Working Party on Transport Trends and Economics (WP.5) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe was held in Geneva, Switzerland, on September 25-27.
FAI “ROSDORNII” requested WP.5 secretariat to assist in obtaining transport infrastructure data from countries with developed road networks. This work is carried out within activities on monitoring the cost of construction, reconstruction, major overhaul, and maintenance of 1 km of public roads.
Deputy Director General of ROSDORNII Vladimir Martinson addressed WP.5 via a video message and presented the Template for collecting data on transport infrastructure construction costs developed by the Institute, which allows road organizations to evaluate the effectiveness of their work. The Template was developed as part of a systematic research on monitoring transport infrastructure costs that ROSDORNII has been conducting since 2015. When filled, it provides a comprehensive description of a road network with such details as road classes, types of pavement, artificial structures and many others. The document is designed to reflect national approaches in classification of highways and road works types, contain s a questionnaire and most important a form for filling estimated cost data on implemented road transport infrastructure projects such as road sections and structures.
Vladimir Martinson described in detail each aspect of filling the document and gave vivid examples based on data from the Russian Federation. WP.5 Secretariat highly appreciated the report and noted the fruitful work of ROSDORNII within the expert group on conducting comparative analysis of transport infrastructure construction costs. After a detailed review of the Template, the Secretariat decided to upload it on the UNECE website for interested parties to fill in. The publication of the document will facilitate cooperation with transport scientific-research institutions of countries with an extensive road network, in particular the BRICS members (Brazil, India, China, South Africa), Turkey, Serbia and others.
