On April 28, 2020, the seminar of the International Road Federation (IRF) "Sustainable road infrastructure: how to plan, build and manage current and future problems" was held in videoconference mode, which was attended by leading world experts, including specialized specialists of the FAA "ROSDORNII".
The online session addressed global and topical issues of optimizing road projects, ways to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, increasing the service life of the road while reducing costs, as well as digitalization and new technologies that can help create a sustainable and efficient transport infrastructure around the world.
Due to economic development and growing urbanization, the demand for new transport infrastructure will increase dramatically in the coming decades. In addition, new challenges are emerging: changing demographics, growing expectations of businesses, service users and the public; the need to reduce carbon dioxide and waste emissions, as well as the need to create infrastructure that is resistant to change climate and extreme weather events. All of them create a dynamic environment, but unlike other industries that successfully use technological advances to improve and change their products and services, the road infrastructure sector has not yet fully exploited the potential of the latest methods and tools in terms of management and interaction between business and the public sector.
At the end, the experts discussed the most pressing issues and noted the relevance of the tasks set during the session.
