From October 6 to 10, 2019, the 26th World Road Congress (hereinafter referred to as the Congress) was held in Abu Dhabi (UAE).
The Russian Federation was represented at the Congress by a delegation of the Ministry of Transport of Russia and a national stand, which provided interactive visualization of the country's largest transport facilities that have been successfully implemented in the Russian Federation over the past decade, including facilities built for the Winter Olympics in Sochi, the events of the summit of the SCO countries in Vladivostok and the World Cup.
The Congress was opened on October 6, 2019 at the Abu Dhabi Exhibition Complex. The organizers of the congress have prepared a colorful show with actors in national costumes of the participating countries of the Congress.
According to the statistics, more than 3,000 delegates from 120 countries, including 50 ministers, took part in the Congress.
The strategic topics discussed at the Congress were:
- measures to adapt transport infrastructure to climate change;
- financing of road projects and their crediting;
- safety of the road network;
- accessibility of transport and mobility of the population;
- ITS implementation;
- multimodal transportation;
- introduction of innovations in road construction, including BIM technologies.
First Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation I.S. Alafinov made a report at the strategic session devoted to the financing of road facilities.
Special attention was paid at the Congress to measures to improve road safety, taking into account that 1,300,000 people die in road accidents every year in the world.
In terms of the introduction of new technologies, world experts are interested in the use of energy-saving technologies for the construction and repair of highways and road infrastructure, electrification of roads, as well as waste disposal (construction of plastic roads, foundations of road clothes made of cellulose, the use of recycled tires for the production of rubber-bitumen binder, etc.). It is not by chance that the prize of the organizers - PIARC was awarded to Spanish engineers for the construction of a highway from recycled waste paper.
The closing of the Congress was no less memorable than the business program, and was held under the sounds of the "Farewell of the Slavs" performed by the colorful orchestra of the Abu Dhabi police.
