The first demonstration of the most accurate WIM system in the world
Traffic Technology Today, 28.03.2022
The Kistler Group of Companies presented the KiTraffic Digital system at the Intertraffic Amsterdam exhibition, which consists of several rows of sensor strips immersed in the road surface. Lineas Digital WIM sensors are equipped with piezoelectric elements based on quartz crystals. The digital measuring signal makes it possible to detect vehicles without inductive loops and distinguish single tires from double tires without additional sensors.
The new system was the first to receive the OIML R134 certificate for accuracy class F5 of the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), making it the most accurate WIM system of its kind on the market.
KiTraffic Digital calculates the load on the wheel, axle and total weight of each vehicle. The system is certified for a wide range of axial loads from 1 to 20 tons. GVW is unlimited. Certified speed ranges range from 10 to 100 km/h for heavy trucks and up to 130 km/h for passenger cars and vans.
Also at booth 01.410 at Intertaffic, Kistler will present its speed control solutions and the KiTraffic Plus modular system, an open platform for collecting and monitoring traffic data that can be flexibly adapted to customer needs.
"Customers are often interested not only in WIM, but also expect a comprehensive solution that combines other functions," explains Christoph Clauser. "KiTraffic Plus is a comprehensive modular solution that can be precisely tailored to the needs of each user — whether it's data collection, bridge protection, vehicle pre—selection or direct enforcement."
KiTraffic Plus is an open platform that allows users to implement WIM together with additional devices such as ANPR and surveillance cameras, speed monitoring devices and overall dimensions. As an option, KiTraffic Plus can always integrate the definition of the configuration and condition of tires (single/double and flat tires).
Thanks to the modular architecture of the KiTraffic Plus system, it can be expanded at any time without significant costs and efforts. The Kistler DataMatcher software collects all the data collected by the installed system to create a data set for a specific vehicle. As an addition, Kistler offers a graphical user interface for displaying real-time pre-selection data during sampling campaigns or for post-processing of the received data sets.
The mobile speed control solution easily detects different classes of vehicles, including motorcycles, in multiple lanes and simultaneously measures speed in both directions with just one device.
The system requires a measuring base with a length of 50 centimeters, which allows you to effectively control the speed even in difficult situations, for example, on turns and in conditions of limited space. The system is effectively used in a wide variety of environments, such as cities, intercity roads, highways and mountain roads.
