ROSDORNII representatives participated in the meeting of Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific

The Deputy Head of Directorate for Technological Support, Vladimir Maryev, and the Chief Specialist of Department for International Ties, Vitaly Nikiforov, took part in 1st Expert Group Meeting on Supporting the policies on green and resilient transport infrastructure along the Asian Highway Network.

The event was organized by the Secretariat of UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Institute for Sustainable Development Policy.

Representatives from Russia, Kazakhstan, China, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Georgia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Turkey, Bhutan, Laos, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Vietnam attended the meeting.

The business programme featured presentations of the tentative research findings of projects aimed to improve the sustainability of road infrastructure and reduce the adverse impact on the environment.

The participants discussed technical standards and case studies, including from least developed countries and landlocked and small island developing states. During the session, national experience and initiatives undertaken to promote sustainable and green infrastructure in China and the Republic of Korea were brought to the attention of the audience. In addition, the development of a green, sustainable and resilient road network in the region was assessed, sustainable highway design and construction criteria were evaluated, and experience was shared on introducing a system of measures for socially inclusive infrastructure planning.

The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), established in 1947, is mandated to address the economic and social problems of the region. ESCAP provides technical assistance, focusing on direct advice to Governments, staff training and the consolidation of regional practices and information through meetings, publications and cross-national communication networks. The Commission implements programs and projects to stimulate growth, improve socio-economic conditions and help lay the foundations for a modern society.
